Commodities are the goods that your colonists harvest from the environment, produce from workshops, or receive from a Supply Drop. They are stored in stockpiles, until used by your colonists. Food commodities are consumed to ensure your colonists don't starve, raw materials are used in the construction of buildings and modules (in the case of logs and planks), used to make bricks at the Ceramics Workshop (in the case of clay), or smelted into ingots at the Metalworks (in the case of mined ore).

These planks, bricks, and ingots are also commodities and are used in the creation of modules, and with ingots, to produce cogs and pipes, which are used in high-end building module production.
